ফ্লোরেন্স নাইটিঙ্গেল (মে ১২, ১৮২০ – আগস্ট ১৩, ১৯১০) ছিলেন আধুনিক নার্সিং সেবার অগ্রদূত, একজন লেখক এবং পরিসংখ্যানবিদ। যিনি দ্যা লেডি ইউথ দ্যা ল্যাম্প নামে পরিচিত ছিলেন। Florence Nightingale Florence Nightingale CDV by H Lenthall.jpg জন্ম ১২ মে ১৮২০ Florence, Grand Duchy of Tuscany মৃত্যু ১৩ আগস্ট ১৯১০ (বয়স ৯০) Park Lane, London, United Kingdom পরিচিতির কারণ Pioneering modern nursing পুরস্কার Royal Red Cross (1883) Lady of Grace of the Order of St John (LGStJ) Order of Merit (1907) স্বাক্ষর Florence Nightingale Signature.svg ১৮৯০ সালের ৩০ জুলাই রেকর্ড করা চার্জ অফ দা লাইট ব্রিগ্রেডের বৃদ্ধ সদস্যদের জন্য তহবিল গঠনের জন্য।[১] বাবা উইলিয়াম এডওয়ার্ড নাইটিঙ্গেল এবং মা ফ্রান্সিস নাইটিঙ্গেলের অভিজাত পরিবারে ১৮২০ সালের ১২ মে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন ফ্লোরেন্স নাইটিঙ্গেল। তার জীবদ্দশায় তিনি ১৮৫৩ সাল থেকে ১৮৫৪ সাল পর্যন্ত লন্ডনের ‘কেয়ার অব সিক জেন্টলওমেন ইনিস্টিটিউটের’ তত্ত্বাবধায়ক হিসাবে কাজ করে গেছেন। ১৮৫৫ সালে তিনি নার্স প্রশিক্ষণের জন্য তহবিল সংগ্রহের জন্য কাজ শুরু করেন। নিরলস প্রচেষ্টায় ১৮৫৯ সালে তিনি নাইটিঙ্গেল ফান্ডের জন্য সংগ্রহ করেন প্রায় ৪৫ হাজার পাউন্ড। পরবর্তী সময়ে তিনি ভারতবর্ষের গ্রামীণ মানুষের স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থার ওপর গবেষণা চালান। যা ভারতবর্ষে উন্নত স্বাস্থ্যসেবা পৌছে দেওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা অবদান রাখে। ইংল্যান্ডের স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থা উন্নয়নেও তিনি বিশেষ ভূমিকা পালন করেছেন। ১৮৫৯ সালে তিনি ‘রয়্যাল স্ট্যাটিসটিক্যাল সোসাইটির’ প্রথম সারির সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন। লন্ডনের সেন্ট থমাস হাসপাতালে নার্সিংকে সম্পূর্ণ পেশারূপে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করার জন্য ১৮৬০ সালে তিনি প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন ‘নাইটিঙ্গেল ট্রেনিং স্কুল’ যার বর্তমান নাম ‘ফ্লোরেন্স নাইটিঙ্গেল স্কুল অব নার্সিং । ডা. এলিজাবেথ ব্ল্যাকওয়েলের সাথে যৌথভাবে ১৮৬৭ সালে নিউইয়র্কে চালু করেন ‘উইমেন্স মেডিক্যাল কলেজ’। এ ছাড়াও তিনি বিভিন্ন সময় নার্সিংয়ের উপর বইও লিখেছেন। তিনি অসংখ্য পদক আর উপাধিতে ভূষিত হয়েছেন। ১৮৮৩ সালে রাণী ভিক্টোরিয়া তাকে ‘রয়েল রেডক্রস’ পদক প্রদান করেন। প্রথম নারী হিসাবে ‘অর্ডার অব মেরিট’ খেতাব লাভ করেন ১৯০৭ সালে। ১৯০৮ সালে লাভ করেন লন্ডন নগরীর ‘অনারারি ফ্রিডম’ উপাধি।[৫] এ ছাড়াও ১৯৭৪ সাল থেকে তার জন্মদিন ১২ মে পালিত হয়ে আসছে ‘ইন্টারন্যাশনাল নার্সেস ডে’। যার মধ্যেমে সম্মান জানানো হয় এক নারীকে যিনি তার কর্মের মাধ্যমে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছেন- নার্সিং একটি পেশা নয় সেবা। ১৯১০ সালের ১৩ আগস্ট ৯০ বছর বয়সে লন্ডনে নিজ বাসভবনে মৃত্যুবরণ করেন যাত্রী ফ্লোরেন্স নাইটিঙ্গেল।

এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় রংপুর এ প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয় নার্সিং ভর্তি কোচিং, রংপুর । রংপুর নার্সিং ভর্তি কোচিং এর মাধ্যমে প্রতি বছর ৬০ জনের মদ্ধ্যে ২০ জন সরকারি ভাবে নার্সিং পরার সুযোগ পায়। ইনশাআল্লাহ্‌, এই বছরেও এর ধারা বাহিকতা অব্যহত থাকবে।
